Structural and cosmetic repair to arched, curved and round-top doors — realignment, splicing, glass panel replacement, ironmongery overhaul, and full refinishing. We repair arched doors of every profile: round-top, segmental, gothic, ogee and Tudor.
Every arched door repair project follows a fixed-price scope agreed in advance.
Arched and curved doors are difficult to repair well. The curved head means most joiners can't work on them with confidence — the geometry, jointing and glass patterns are all bespoke. That's why we exist as a specialist division: this is what our workshop does full-time.
The most common repair issues on arched doors are: (1) bottom-rail rot from driven rain, (2) hinge failure from the door's weight over decades, (3) glass panel damage from impact or age, and (4) frame movement as the property settles. Each has an established repair path.
Localised rot in the bottom rail is repaired by splicing — cutting out the damaged section and joining new timber with a scarf joint. Done properly the repair is invisible after finishing and structurally sound. We use accoya or oak matched to the original species.
Arched doors are typically heavy (30-50 kg for a solid hardwood door), which means hinges take heavy load. Over decades they wear and the door drops. Repair involves hinge repositioning, new heavy-duty hinges (typically 4" ball-race bronze), and — where the frame has moved — packing behind the frame to restore square.
Arched-head glass panels usually need to be cut bespoke to the arch geometry. We can source and cut bevelled, leaded, stained and modern sealed-unit glass to fit. For heritage glass patterns we work from original photographs where available.
For localised repairs to a single arched door. Full arched heritage door restoration typically £800-£2,400. Free assessment included.
